US temporarily eases sanctions on money transfers to Iran
The US Treasury Department has temporarily eased restrictions prohibiting US-based non-governmental organisations from transferring money to Iran in the wake of two recent earthquakes in the northwest of the country which left 306 people dead.
The US and the EU have imposed economic sanctions on Iran because of the country's nuclear programme, which many in the West suspect may be used to build a nuclear weapon.
