Egypt's retailers clash with illegal street traders

Egypt has been plunged into political turmoil and frequent disturbances since the revolution that ousted President Hosni Mubarak two years ago.

One of the consequences has been a general lapse of police control, which has allowed a virtual invasion of Cairo's city centre by street traders.

As many as a million of them are on the streets, leading to friction and even clashes with shopkeepers and others.
