Syria crisis: UK FM William Hague praises EU arms decision

British Foreign Secretary William Hague has praised an EU agreement not to extend an arms embargo on the Syrian opposition as "the right decision".

The decision came after lengthy talks in Brussels. Britain and France had been pressing to send weapons to what they call moderate opponents of President Assad, saying it would push Damascus towards a political solution to the two-year conflict.

Mr Hague said there was "no immediate decision to send arms" to Syrian rebels and that all other sanctions remained in force.
