Syria photos may prove claims of torture

A report by three former war crimes prosecutors says there is clear evidence that Syria has systematically tortured and executed about 11,000 detainees since the start of the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad.

The investigators examined thousands of images of dead prisoners reportedly smuggled out of Syria by a military police photographer who defected.

They say most of the bodies were emaciated, many had been beaten or strangled.

Stuart Hamilton is one of the forensic pathologists who examined the evidence, he said "there was a large number who were showing evidence of significant starvation. There were a large number who looked as if they had been bound or restrained".
