Syrian Women's Diaries

Filmed mostly in secret by women over a period of seven months in 2012, this BBC Arabic documentary provides moving and personal insights into Syria's conflict. From inside their homes, the safety of their bedrooms, living rooms, and kitchens, they reveal glimpses of their lives and express their feelings about the events that have torn their country apart.

A pro-government journalist, a film-maker, a secular aid worker, a pro-rebel activist and a nurse tell us how they became part of the uprising as women. Their personal stories cover the early stages of the revolt against Syria's President Bashar al-Assad and the escalation into armed conflict.

Filmed mostly with mobile phones and small cameras, hidden from the authorities for their safety, the women reveal to us what the news seldom can, and tell us simply what some women did in Syria's war.
