Iraq PM vows to end insurgency by jihadists
Iraq's prime minister has warned jihadist insurgents who overran much of the northwest of the country this week of the "beginning of the end" of their campaign.
Nouri al-Maliki was addressing military commanders in Samarra, just north of Baghdad, where he said volunteers were gathering to launch a counter-offensive.
Iran's President Hassan Rouhani has said that his country is is ready to assist the Iraqi government in its battle against the extremist Sunni insurgents.
