Gaza-Israel conflict: Peace deal still possible, says Arab League
Egypt is still capable of brokering a lasting ceasefire in Gaza, the secretary-general of the Arab League has said.
In an interview with the BBC, Dr Nabil al-Arabi rejected claims that a truce proposal put forward by the Egyptians earlier in the week was "in ruins" and said he was hopeful Hamas would sign up to the deal.
A brief ceasefire was observed by Israel on Tuesday, but it resumed air strikes after militants continued to fire rockets into Israel from Gaza.
Palestinian officials say the raids have killed at least 213 Gazans since the start of the violence last week, while one Israeli has died.
Israel has agreed to a six-hour "humanitarian ceasefire" on Thursday, following a request from the UN.
