Israel tells UN 'we are fighting terrorism'

The UN Security Council has called for an "immediate and unconditional humanitarian ceasefire" in Gaza.

At a meeting in New York the Security Council unanimously adopted a statement urging Israel and Hamas to make efforts to achieve a durable halt to hostilities.

Ron Prosor, the Israeli Ambassador to the UN, called on members to "stand with Israel" in the fight "against terrorism".
