Israel's military strategy in Gaza under scrutiny
Israel has offered to extend a three-day ceasefire in Gaza which began on Tuesday after nearly a month of conflict.
However, a leader of the militant Hamas movement, which dominates Gaza, has said there is no agreement on that.
More than 1,800 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed, along with 64 Israeli soldiers and three civilians in Israel.
The BBC's Paul Adams examines the criticism being levelled at the Israeli military, whose leaders insist they are "trying to minimise the civilian impact".
