Israel 'very restrained' with its offensive in Gaza
Israel has said it is open to negotiations with Hamas, but not if it continues firing rockets at Israeli communities.
"We are very reluctant warriors... We are very, very restrained. This is why we didn't take over Gaza in a very massive ground attack," deputy Israeli foreign minister Danny Ayalon has told the BBC.
At least 1,960 people have died since violence erupted in Gaza in early July.
More than 1,900 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed, according to the UN.
Sixty-seven people have died on the Israeli side, including three civilians.
