US fire airstrikes against IS and drop supplies in Iraq
The US has carried out airstrikes in an attempt to stem the advance of the Islamic State (IS) in Iraq.
It has also carried out a second air drop of supplies to the Yazidi people on a mountainside in northern Iraq.
Thousands of them are fleeing from IS, which deems their ancient religion to be devil worship.
A British cargo plane has also set off, the BBC understands, to take humanitarian aid to Iraq.
