US airstrikes in Iraq continue despite IS threat

The United States has said the Islamic State (IS) is a long-term threat - greater than any other so far - and it and referred to the militant group as an "apocalyptic organisation".

The group said the killing of journalist James Foley was in retaliation for US airstrikes, and warned that another journalist would be killed if the strikes did not stop.

US airstrikes have continued in the area of the Mosul Dam in northern Iraq.
