'Iraq mass graves' claim to be investigated

Amnesty International has said it has gathered evidence that shows Islamic State militants have been carrying out ''a wave of ethnic cleansing'' in northern Iraq.

The human rights group said IS fighters have been committing war crimes, including mass summary killings and abductions, against ethnic and religious minorities.

Duncan Spinner, the head of Iraq for the International Commission for Missing Persons, told the BBC's Jim Muir the Iraqi government has asked for suspected mass graves to be investigated.

''There's an allegation that between 800 and 1700 people were murdered by ISIS and placed in shallow mass graves, '' he said.
