Robots and advance imaging transform surgery
Robotic surgery is transforming modern medicine. Large movements of the surgeon's hands in the operating theatre translate into very small movements of the robotic instruments.
It is less tiring for the surgeons and for the patient, it means less scarring, a quicker recovery and reduced risk of infection.
Further advances in robotic surgery, including augmented reality, are also in the pipeline.
The Health Show is broadcast on BBC World News on Saturdays at 1010 and 2010 GMT and on Sundays at 0710 and 2310 GMT. The programme is supported by the Gates Foundation.
