New Jersey Shore's recovery after superstorm Sandy

After tearing through the Caribbean, superstorm Sandy wreaked havoc along part of the USA's east coast in October 2012.

At least 120 people were killed in the US and the cost to clear-up was over $60bn (£37bn) making it the second most expensive storm in US history.

One of the worst hit areas was the New Jersey Shore. The area's beaches, boardwalks and amusement parks were badly damaged in the storm and it sparked fears that the 2013 lucrative summer tourist season would be a washout.
