Cool down in New York with a dip in a dumpster
Authorities in New York have filled giant refuse bins (dumpsters) with water, rather than rubbish, in a bid to help New Yorkers keep cool during the hot summer.
As part of the Summer Streets initiative, the three large rubbish skips have been set up as swimming pools on Park Avenue and allow people to take a refreshing dip amongst the sky scrapers, shops and office buildings.
Locals and tourists can swim for up to 25 minutes for free in the 'dumpster pools', which are lined with plastic.
A similar scheme was tried out in the borough of Brooklyn last year and proved to be an instant hit.
