California is considering legalising marijuana in order to tax it and earn revenue for the state.
In less than two weeks, voters will decide if small amounts of cannabis for personal use should be allowed and polls suggest it will be a close race.
Currently the illicit cannabis industry is worth billions of pounds a year and the scheme is seen as a way to help close a huge gap in the state's finances.
