President Obama: 'We are poised for progress'

In his State of the Union address, President Barack Obama has said the American people ''are poised for progress''.

He added the stock market ''has come roaring back'' after two years of recession.

Republicans warn they will reject calls for spending, in order to deal with the "crushing burden of debt".
