US budget: It has been a long fight, says Boehner

Politicians on Capitol Hill have reached a deal on a new budget which will avoid large sections of the federal government being shut down.

It is understood Democrats and Republicans have compromised over their positions and agreed a temporary deal.

Tensions have been running high as they try to hammer out an agreement.

House Speaker John Boehner said it had been a long fight to keep government spending down.
