Curator explains importance of American Civil War's black soldiers

One of the central issues of contention in the American Civil War was the institution of slavery.

Significantly, during the conflict African Americans who had been enslaved for generations had a chance to fight for their own freedom, and in turn, change the course of history.

For the past nine years, that military history has been told at the African American Civil War Museum and Memorial in Washington DC.

In this first person account, curator Hari Jones tells the story of the black men who fought and the legacy they have left behind.
