Scientists say Irene 'getting stronger' after mission to eye of the storm

Air Force reserve pilots and scientists have flown deep into the eye of hurricane Irene in order to observe how the storm is growing.

Braving 100 mile an hour winds, they shot canisters filled with sensors into the ferocious storm clouds.

These sensors reported back that Irene's pressure was dropping, meaning the storm was getting stronger thanks to the warm ocean waters below which were helping it grow.

ABC's Steve Osunsami spoke to Major Shane Devlin and Lt. Col Jon Talbot as he accompanied the scientists on their mission.
