Occupy LA protesters defy eviction deadline

Occupy Wall Street protesters camped outside City Hall in Los Angeles have defied an eviction deadline, with some 1,000 people flooding into the area.

Protesters were given until midnight local time (0800 GMT) to leave. They said they planned to hold eviction parties to delay police raids.

LAPD commander Andrew Smith said that many people have left the park area and so far it had been non-violent.

He added: "Some are co-operating and others are not interested in doing that. So we're dealing with them right now."
