Turn on, tune in - local TV news

Local television as you have never seen it before is about to hit the UK, as the government announces the first of what it hopes will be dozens of new channels based in towns and cities across the country.

Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt has said Birmingham, in the West Midlands, should have the same choice in local news as Birmingham, Alabama, which has four network affiliates.

Anchors and executives at WBMA ABC 33/40, "Alabama's News Leader," explain how they make local news pay in such a crowded market and what the UK's fledgling channels can learn from the US experience.
