"Tis the season to be jolly" - and many churches around the US are echoing to the sound of organ music and Christmas carols.
But the traditional pipe organ that has been at the heart of liturgy for centuries is under threat.
Production of new instruments is slow, many churches cannot afford to maintain their older organs and electronic music is also becoming more popular as churches seek to modernise.
But, as Jane O'Brien reports, the era of the mighty pipe organ is not over yet.
