Groundhog's forecast: No let-up in wintry weather

Europe is suffering from severe temperatures and a big freeze so spring feels a long way away.

But in Pennsylvania in the United States all eyes have been on a very special rodent.

As local tradition states, if a groundhog named Punxsutawney Phil casts a shadow today, then winter will last another six weeks.

If not, it is said spring will come early.

Up to 18,000 people came to witness the events at Gobblers Knob near Pittsburgh.

And those hoping for a sign of warmer weather were, it turned out, left disappointed.
