Washington Post reporter gets tied up in Watergate scandal

Veteran reporter Marilyn Berger did not set out to become part of the Watergate story.

She covered world affairs, and 1972 found her dealing with the shooting at the Munich Olympics and elections in Chile.

But the information she discovered - gained after a former Washington Post newspaper employee turned Republican operative tried to impress her over drinks - helped prove a connection between political "dirty tricks" and the Nixon White House.

When she shared what she learned with the Post reporters, she became part of the story, and part of Watergate history.
