Obama verdict on Republican VP candidate Paul Ryan

US President Barack Obama has congratulated the new Republican vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan, describing his as a "decent" man whose vision is "fundamentally" at odds with his own.

Mr Obama made his first public comments on the selection of Mr Ryan at a campaign fundraiser in Chicago.
