Romney: Obama campaign 'stooping to low level' over Akin

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has accused his rival President Barack Obama's campaign of stooping to a "low level".

In an interview with US TV channel Fox News, Mr Romney accuses Democrats of trying to link him to controversial views on rape recently voiced by fellow Republican Todd Akin.

The Obama camp has accused Mr Romney of extreme positions on social issues.

Referring to Mr Akin's original comments, Mr Romney said in Sunday's interview: "I've distanced myself from the kind of thing he said as far as I possibly can".
