Rahm Emanuel: Barack Obama can lead again

Former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel has told crowds at the Democratic that President Barack Obama has the convictions and experience to lead the US for the next four years.

Mr Emanuel, now mayor of Chicago, praised the president for his achievements during his term in office, and said the upcoming election would set the tone for the next 40 years of US history.

"It is the president's values that shape a future in which the middle class has hope," Mr Emanuel said.

President Obama faces Republican Mitt Romney in the 6 November election.
