US President Obama condemns 'shocking' consulate attack

The US condemns "in the strongest terms" the "outrageous and shocking attack" on the US consulate in Benghazi in which four Americans were killed, President Barack Obama has said.

Speaking outside the White House, the president also paid tribute to those who died, including the US ambassador to Libya, J Christopher Stevens, saying that they represented "the very best of the United States of America".

"Let us never, ever forget that out freedom is only sustained because there are people willing to fight for it - to stand up for it", he added.
