Storm Sandy: Getting New York moving again
People in New York City are surveying the damage caused by Sandy, which killed at least 40 when it struck the US and brought the city and surrounding area to a standstill.
JFK and Newark Liberty - two of the New York area's three main airports - were scheduled to open for a limited service on Wednesday, but severe delays were expected after the cancellation of more than 18,000 flights across the affected area.
New York City's Subway network also suffered extensive damage and remains closed, though some bus services have resumed.
Salvatore Arena, from the Metropolitan Transport Authority, spoke to the BBC about how the authorities are trying to resolve the city's transport problems.
