Obama: Guantanamo 'not necessary'
US President Obama says he will renew efforts to close the American military detention camp at Guantanamo Bay.
He said the camp was "not necessary to keep America safe, it is expensive, it is inefficient... it is a recruitment tool for extremists; it needs to be closed."
His comments come as some 100 inmates continue a hunger strike, with some now being force-fed, and extra medical staff sent to the centre to deal with them.
