Cleveland 'kidnapper' Ariel Castro appears in court

The man suspected of imprisoning three women for several years in Cleveland, Ohio, has made his first court appearance since the women escaped from captivity.

Ariel Castro, 52, appeared at the city's municipal court charged with kidnap and rape.

Prosecutor Brian Murphy called for justice for Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight, who were allegedly abducted and held in Castro's house for about a decade.

Bail was set at $2m (£1.4m) for each of the four charges against him.
