Plans for a transport system that would carry people between cities at nearly the speed of sound have been proposed by an American inventor and entrepreneur.

Elon Musk, the founder of PayPal, is proposing a system which could transport people between Los Angeles and San Francisco, a journey of nearly 400 miles, in less than an hour.
