US government shutdown: Federal worker on unpaid leave

As the US government begins its partial shutdown, more than 700,000 federal employees face unpaid leave.

One of those asked not to work was Joe Bartels, a government lawyer who lives in the US state of Virginia.

Mr Bartels and his wife, Beth, told the BBC's Jonny Dymond they are frustrated with inaction in Congress and hope "people will come to their senses" soon.
