New York diners get the silent treatment

A restaurant in New York is offering its customers silent dining - by taking talking off the menu.

Customers have to reserve days in advance for the privilege of eating without speaking or hearing a word at EAT in Brooklyn.

Managing chef, Nick Nauman told BBC Radio 5 live's Drive that he hoped the move would help diners "think about their experience of eating."

However Wall Street Journal contributor Richard Morgan, who has dined at the restaurant, said that the silence made customers concentrate on communicating via "gestures and pantomime."
