US sailor recounts WW2 photo's iconic kiss

The US Navy sailor photographed kissing a woman in New York's Times Square at the end of World War Two - made famous after it ended up on the cover of Life magazine - has died aged 86.

Glenn McDuffie's claims that he was the man in Alfred Eisenstaedt's photo were supported by a police forensic artist's analysis.

The picture was taken as news of Japan's surrender spread through Times Square on 14 August 1945.

Edith Shain, who worked in a nearby hospital, claimed to be the nurse in the photo. She died in 2010.
