Phoenix desert region hit by floods

Phoenix, Arizona, has suffered torrential storms causing severe flooding across the desert region.

The National Weather Service said some areas had received more rain in one day than they had during the whole summer in 2013.

The desert sees very little rain most of the year, so when large amounts of rain fall in a short period, the water has nowhere to go.

Resident Kathy Mascaro said: "I've been here 20 years and it has never flooded this bad".
