Central Park deserted as New York braces for 'historic storm'

Residents in New York City are bracing themselves for what officials have warned could be the worse snowstorm to ever hit the area.

The BBC's Laura Trevelyan said "hardly anybody" was around the usually busy Central Park as people braced themselves for the potentially "crippling and life-threatening blizzard".

She said that more than 1,000 snow ploughs were being used in order to keep the city's roads clear.
