Obama condemns Ferguson shootings of police officers

US President Barack Obama has condemned the shooting of two police officers in Ferguson, Missouri.

Speaking on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live programme, Mr Obama described those who fired the shots as "criminals".

The officers, who have now left hospital, were shot early on Thursday as protesters rallied outside the police headquarters, following the resignation of the city's police chief.

A government report had accused his department of racial bias after a white officer shot dead an unarmed young black man last August.
