Israel election: Two-state solution 'still alive'
Benjamin Netanyahu and his Likud party are celebrating victory in the Israeli election. The White House says President Obama will be calling Mr Netanyahu to congratulate him but it also accused Likud of using anti-Arab rhetoric during the campaign.
A White House spokesman also reiterated America's commitment to a two state solution - one Mr Netanyahu rejected in the final days of the campaign.
The former US Special Envoy for Middle East Peace, George Mitchell, agrees that the two-state solution remains the primary path for easing the unrest in the region - despite ongoing difficulties in achieving it.
"No credible alternative to it has been presented and so I think that will remain alive, and perhaps await another time and other leaders," he told the BBC's Katty Kay.
