Supreme Court ruling hailed by top Missouri official who has 'effectively ended abortion'

Missouri has effectively ended abortion, state attorney general Eric Schmitt has said.

His comments come after a US Supreme Court decision overturned the landmark abortion rights ruling, Roe v Wade.

"The importance of this day cannot be overstated," Schmitt said.

About 36 million women of reproductive age across the US are expected to lose abortion access as a result of the court's decision.
