Kevin McCarthy makes first speech after becoming new Speaker

Kevin McCarthy has made his first speech since being elected Speaker of the US House of Representatives.

Speaking after his confirmation, Mr McCarthy said, "that was easy, huh?", to laughter from the chamber before saying, "opportunity and democracy still thrive in America".

Mr McCarthy finally won the job after 15 rounds of voting, despite his party holding a majority in the chamber.
