Pentagon admits delay in discussing Austin's condition
US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin underwent surgery for prostate cancer on 22 December and subsequently suffered complications.
The White House says it did not know of Austin's diagnosis until Tuesday morning.
A Pentagon spokesperson admitted that it could have "done better" handling the matter.
