Supermarket sales of English Apples increased in 2011

Supermarket sales of the English apple increased by almost 20% in 2011.

It was a record year for the Braeburn variety with a crop that was 40% larger than in 2010.

Adrian Barlow from growers association English Apples and Pears told Radio 5 live Morning Reports how a bumper apple crop and people buying more locally had a positive effect on the fruit.
