Watch: How Tim Davie addressed BBC controversies over the years

Over the span of his career as BBC director general, Tim Davie faced multiple crises including over presenter Gary Lineker, Bob Vylan at Glastonbury and the Gaza: How To Survive A Warzone documentary.

Tim Davie became the director general of the BBC in September 2020. He was also acting director general of the BBC between November 2012 and April 2013.

During his first interview as acting director general of the BBC in 2012, he said "the BBC needs strong leadership, that's what I want to bring".

He stepped down down after 20 years with the corporation.
