Are there too many new teachers looking for jobs?

The managing director for Data for Education, which monitors teacher recruitment, says there are too many new teachers looking for jobs.

Professor John Howson told Radio 5 live that there was a shortage of teaching posts but an increase in the number of teachers.

In 2010, 34,500 teachers applied for just 1,500 jobs.

Speaking to Victoria Derbyshire, Professor Howson said the market was fragile and that even asking people to take early retirement would not greatly ease the transition.
