AC/DC, Rage Against the Machine, Kiss and Slash will battle it out for band of the year at the Classic Rock Roll of Honour 2010.
They all have two nominations at this year's awards - and are up against Aerosmith, Bon Jovi and Jeff Beck in the best band category.
Sixteen artists are nominated for album of the year including Iron Maiden, Pearl Jam, The Scorpions and Foreigner.
The awards, hosted by Alice Cooper, take place in London on 10 November.
The event, at the Roundhouse, will also feature live performances from Cheap Trick and Alter Bridge.
Six categories can be voted for online, while awards handed out on the night include Classic Rock living legend, classic songwriter, the Tommy Vance inspiration award, outstanding contribution, classic album, metal guru, and VIP award.
Other contenders for best album are Cheap Trick, Bigelf, Slash, Kiss, Wolfmother, Alice in Chains, Lynyrd Skynrd, Gaslight Anthem, Europe, Ratt, Black Crowes and Steve Hackett.
AC/DC are also nominated for reissue of the year, for their Backtracks box set - alongside The Rolling Stones (Exile on Main Street), plus Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, David Bowie, Nazareth, King Crimson and Rhino Records' Where The Action Is: LA Nuggets 1965-1968.
The nominations for best new band include The Union, fronted by former Thunder guitarist Luke Morley, Taking Dawn, Finnish metallers Reckless Love, White Wizzard and New Yorkers Alberta Cross.
The Runaways - the movie about the all-girl 1970s rock band featuring Twilight's Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning - is up for DVD/film of the year.
It is up against Julien Temple's Dr Feelgood documentary Oil City Confidential, Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage, Saxon: Heavy Metal Thunder and The Doors: When You're Strange - narrated by Johnny Depp.
