A performance by pop star Katy Perry on US children's show Sesame Street has been axed by producers.

The singer was filmed singing a version of her hit Hot & Cold alongside puppet character Elmo.

It is thought that some parents, who saw a preview video on YouTube, complained that her outfit was too revealing.

Sesame Street said the performance would no longer be screened due to "feedback we've received".

It was scheduled to be aired on US TV on New Year's Eve.

The show said it would still be available on YouTube, but it has now been removed by the official Sesame Street channel.

A spokesman for Perry said she had enjoyed her time on Sesame Street and that the performance was still available on her website.

The 41st season of Sesame Street starts on 27 September and will feature special guests including Oprah Winfrey, Jason Bateman and Colin Farrell.
