Winners at South Bank Sky Arts Awards
Sherlock has been named best TV drama at this year's South Bank Sky Arts Awards.
Actor Andrew Scott credited the show's writing for its success but co-writer Mark Gatiss said people have loved the characters for over a century.
The English National Opera won the opera award for its production of The Damnation of Faust but Terry Gilliam admitted he had been "terrified" about directing opera.
Other awards went to Claire Tomalin who was awarded the literature prize for her biography of Charles Dickens while the outstanding achievement award went to Noises Off author Michael Frayn.
We Need to Talk About Kevin Director Lynne Ramsay picked up the award for best film.
Celebrating the best of British culture, the awards span 11 categories which also include film, opera, dance, classical music and comedy.
